PARTE 5 / PART 5

PARTE 5
PART 5

PART 5

At that time I was obsessed with the life of Jesus Christ. I knew the complete lyrics of Jesus Christ Superstar. A lot of different versions of his life attracted me. I had seen the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ" several times and also read the book by Nikos Kazantzakis. I researched other Gospels as Mary Magdalene and Judas himself. I also explored the Rosicrucian literature. My mother once told me that my grandfather was a Rosicrucian and I confirmed it because the texts I read I got them from his library after he dyed. In those years I already  had a very different view of Jesus Christ from those of Catholic and Christian religions. The Gospels of Mary Magdalene, Judas and the texts of the Rosicrucian spoke more of a spiritual guide, a visionary who sought to awaken consciences. I also met with the version (years before the "Da Vinci Code") that Mary Magdalene fled to southern France pregnant by Jesus Christ where she gave birth to their son. And people, my third surname is Sempé, and its origin is from Pau, a French city located southwest of the country. When I discovered this "coincidence" obviously my head dared to think, imagine, that maybe I was one of the very descendants of Jesus Christ. At that time I censored that information, I found it very bold. I did not mentioned it to anyone. Although once my sister and I went to see my father to Xalapa. I was driving and, of course, put the Jesus Christ Superstar tape and I was singing as possesed. My sister got angry and asked me very upset to stop, to shut up. I did it. But of course, that association came back shortly thereafter in full force.

The elements for my first psychotic break were gathering on several fronts. The stress of my family life, metaphysics, international and foreign policy, my personal life, music, books, movies, memory, my curiosity, my search, etc ... Everything was lining up for a multifaceted explosion. But it was still manageable. In retrospect I think that in many occasions I reached hypomania, mania at some point perhaps, but that was almost habitual in Mexican politics. There wasn’t any suspicion that something was wrong with my mind. Anyway ignorance on the subject of mental health was almost total. I suffered many ups and downs, but nothing, my passion for politics was overwhelming.

The theme of the Zapatista Army (EZLN) occupied all the time in our office. They sent me as spy to peace marches. We were investigating up under rocks to find the identity of Subcomandante Marcos. The speeches of moderation, fear and the PRI Pax began to dominate our pens. Camacho Solís (the incensed) resigned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (if I remember correctly, only lasted a couple of weeks) and was appointed as Commissioner for Peace in Chiapas. He was stealing the spotlight of the Pri candidate, Colosio. The presidential campaign took a back seat. In those days a dude came to work with us a very particular character. But I will tell that story in the next post.
